The Dallas First Baptist Church was organized in 1854 with a membership of 29. That same year it was admitted to the Tallapoosa Baptist Association, thus becoming a Southern Baptist Church. There have been three church buildings in its history. The first was located at the southwest corner of Griffin and Church Streets. About 1880, a white frame building was erected on Grove Park Avenue. The attractive, brick sanctuary, which now stands at Main and Forest Streets, was erected in 1905, it has gone through several renovations over the years, the most prominent being the placement of the beautiful stained glass windows. They were completed in November 1949.
First Baptist has been very dedicated and active these 145 years. It made its first recorded contribution to missions in 1859. The first organized work of Sunday School was in 1882. The Women’s Missionary Society was begun in 1909. It began participating in the Cooperative Program in 1925 when Georgia Baptist Convention organized it. The Brotherhood began in 1942. In 1946 the church voted to become fulltime with services every Sunday. The first education annex was built in 1940. With expanded growth in membership and Sunday School, an additional annex was built in 1956. An additional building was rented in 1988 to accommodate the growing membership, that building now houses children’s Sunday School, Kindergarten, Mom’s Day Out, Children’s Christian Ballet and other programs. As of January 1, 1999 First Baptist has a membership of 781
